Operators can specify when to use which tool through programming instructions, which allows multiple processes to be completed in a single setup cycle, increasing productivity and part consistency.

lathe machine; cnc lathe

Ideal for complex or bulky workpieces, vertical, multi-spindle CNC lathes offer several significant advantages:

1. Flexibility: The multi-spindle design allows for simultaneous machining with multiple tools and more machining tasks in a single clamping.

2. Stability: The vertical design reduces vibration caused by cutting forces, which in turn improves surface quality and dimensional accuracy.

3. Convenience: For large workpieces, vertical machines offer a more convenient operator interface for loading and unloading workpieces.

4. Space utilization: Vertical machines have a relatively small footprint.

CNC lathes usually have a turret (also known as a tool holder) that can be fitted with a number of different types of tools in order to perform different machining tasks.

1. Turning tools: are mainly used for the machining of external rounds, internal holes and end faces. Turning tool materials, such as high-speed steel (HSS), carbide, etc..

2. Cutting off cutter: Used to cut off or separate the workpiece from the raw material.

3. Forming cutter: Used for machining the surface of workpieces of specific shapes, such as grooves, flanges and other non-standard shapes.

4. Thread Turning Tools: Used for machining internal and external threads.

5. Drill: Used for drilling holes in workpieces.

6. Boring tools: for enlarging existing holes or machining deep holes.

7. Reamer: Used for finishing holes to improve the dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the holes.

8. Milling cutter: Although milling is traditionally done on a milling machine, a milling cutter can also be used on some multifunctional CNC lathes for side machining or slot machining.
